Presentation on Avian Postmortem

Post mortem is a Latin word for “after death”. It refers to the examination or investigation of the body after death. The primary reason why a post mortem is done is to find the cause of death. This procedure can be really useful when the cause of death is unknown or vague.

It is done in humans, animals, and birds. The post-mortem in birds is often referred to as avian post-mortem. An Avian post-mortem is equally important as any other post mortem. India being highly depended on poultry production, it is unfeasible to afford high mortality. So when there is a death of few birds with an unknown reason it is mandatory to perform a post-mortem. Once the disease or the underlying condition is known, prophylactic measures can be taken quickly as possible.  This presentation shows various possible lesions that can be observed in an avian post-mortem and the disease causing it.
